The Memorandum signed on Friday in Abu Dhabi by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the two countries provides for the establishment of a Cyprus-UAE Strategic Energy Committee, for the monitoring and coordination of the initiatives agreed, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus.
"The cooperation strengthens the role of Cyprus as a reliable partner and factor of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region," it is noted.
As stated in the press release, the Republic of Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of a Comprehensive Energy Cooperation Strategy, with the aim of further deepening bilateral relations and developing a long-term and structured framework for cooperation in the energy sector.
The Memorandum was signed by Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos and UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan "and reflects the common political will of the two countries to strengthen their strategic cooperation in an area of key importance for energy security, sustainable development and regional stability".
It is noted that the Memorandum establishes the cooperation framework covering the entire energy chain, providing, among other things, cooperation in the fields of liquefied natural gas (LNG), electricity, hydrogen and energy infrastructure, with an emphasis on investments, the transfer of know-how and the utilization of innovative best practices.
"The cooperation enhances the diversification of energy sources and the resilience of energy systems, in line with international climate goals, while leveraging the comparative advantages of the two countries. At the same time, it strengthens the role of Cyprus as a reliable partner and factor of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region," it added.
For the effective implementation of the Memorandum, it is stated, the establishment of a Cyprus-UAE Strategic Energy Committee is foreseen, responsible for monitoring and coordinating the agreed initiatives.
