The dynamic and targeted preventive operations of the Police continued during last night, with an enhanced presence in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, protecting citizens and ensuring public order.
As part of these operations, the Police proceeded to arrest a total of eight persons on a nationwide basis.
Four persons in the province of Nicosia were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol (three over 70μg), while the fourth for not providing a satisfactory exhalation sample.
In the province of Limassol, two more persons were arrested, one for dangerous driving (violation of a red light) and driving under the influence of alcohol (85μg final), while the second for assault and insult of a member of the Police.
Members of the OPOD arrested two more persons for driving under the influence of alcohol.
During the same night, extensive inspections were also carried out on a number of premises, with the aim of preventing and suppressing delinquent behaviours in a timely manner.
As far as the road network is concerned, more than 1,140 inspections were carried out, which resulted in more than 250 traffic complaints.
Of these, 53 were related to driving under the influence of alcohol, while another 59 were about exceeding the speed limit
Also, as part of the investigation of traffic offenses, 18 cars, a motorcycle and an electric bicycle were detained.
These operations are part of a broad, continuous and strengthened preventive plan of the Police, with an increased police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action in all provinces, with the aim of preventing crime and strengthening the sense of security of citizens.

YKAN arrested two persons yesterday [10/01] in the provinces of Larnaca and Limassol, in relation to illegal possession of narcotic substances.
In the first case, around 12:00 yesterday afternoon in Larnaca, while a 39-year-old man was driving his motorcycle on Kyriakou Matsi Avenue, under circumstances that are being investigated, he collided with a vehicle driven by a 51-year-old woman.
As a result of the collision, the 39-year-old was slightly injured and was taken by ambulance to Larnaca General Hospital.
Following information, members of YKAN (Larnaca Unit) visited the 39-year-old at the Larnaca General Hospital, and in a subsequent physical search, they found in his possession, 24 nylon bags containing methamphetamine, with a total gross weight of approximately 14,7 grams.
The 39-year-old was arrested for a flagrante delicto, while further examinations revealed that he was riding the motorcycle without a driver's license and a safety certificate.
In the second case, members of YKAN (Limassol Unit) carried out a search yesterday at the home of a 24-year-old man in Limassol.
During the investigation, they found in a safe, three nylon bags containing a quantity of cocaine with a total gross weight of approximately 2,2 grams and a precision scale.
The 24-year-old was arrested for a self-inflicted offense, while during the investigation, the amount of 1875 euros was also found, for which tests will be carried out, if it is related to the purchase and sale of drugs.
