The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, described the incidents that took place in Larnaca as "unacceptable" and announced drastic measures.
In his statements on Sunday to journalists, Mr. Christodoulidis on the sidelines of a national memorial service at the Episcopate, President Christodoulidis said that he has been in communication with the Minister of Justice since Saturday night, while he stated that he is not going to embellish any situation.
He said that the relevant actions are progressing on the part of the Police to arrest those involved in these incidents. "In case of involvement of foreigners, they will be arrested and deported immediately from our country and placed on the stop list" so that they cannot return, he said.
Regarding the possible involvement of Cypriot citizens, the President said that he does not know details while referring to the need for "exemplary punishment", noting that the images that have seen the light of day do not lend themselves to any other characterization other than unacceptable.
