Relations between Cyprus and Ukraine have strong prospects, particularly in the areas of supply chain, postal communications, security, agriculture and the rehabilitation of Ukrainian children affected by the hostilities, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Cyprus, Serhii Nijinsky, said on Tuesday at a press conference.
At the same time, he pointed out the positive role of Ukrainians living in Cyprus, noting that the community is actively integrated into the local community. As he mentioned, Ukrainians on the island learn the Greek language, work, open businesses and contribute to the Cypriot economy through the payment of taxes. Citing official data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, he said that about 24.000 Ukrainians are in the country under temporary protection status, while the total number of Ukrainians living in the Republic is estimated at 33.000. The embassy clarified that Ukrainians with temporary protection status do not receive regular cash benefits, but they have the right to work.
The statements were made on the occasion of the completion, on December 21, of 100 days since the assumption of office of Serhiy Nijinsky as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Cyprus. The Ambassador officially began his diplomatic mission on September 12, after presenting his credentials to the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides.
According to the embassy, Ambassador Nijinsky set as key priorities the provision of accurate information on Ukraine, the reactivation of the Ukraine-Cyprus Intergovernmental Committee, the building of functional relations with key institutions and the preparatory work for a future visit of the President of the Republic of Cyprus to Kyiv.
As reported by the Embassy, confidence in the possibilities of implementing joint projects was further strengthened during President Nikos Christodoulides' visit to Ukraine on December 4, 2025, which marked the first meeting of the leaders of the two countries in 11 years.
