The Police again recommends caution to the public, as fraud continues by persons pretending to be the Police and aiming to extract personal data and money from citizens' bank accounts.
The perpetrators communicate with citizens by phone, as well as by video calls, through an electronic communication application. They claim to be police officers and during video calls they allegedly wear a police uniform and present an alleged police ID, in order to convince citizens of the authenticity of their claims.
Claiming that they are conducting a police check, the perpetrators call on citizens to report their personal information, such as their passport, identity card or residence permit details in the Republic, as well as bank debit or credit card details.
The public is called to be especially careful, since the purpose of the perpetrators is to extract personal data and steal money from citizens' bank accounts.
As a protection measure, it is recommended that citizens avoid responding to the instructions they receive from the perpetrators of the fraud and do not disclose their personal information.
In the event that citizens have been deceived and have declared their bank details to suspicious persons during such communication, they are urged to immediately inform the banking institution in which they maintain an account, to prevent theft of their money.
Finally, the Police informs the public that they never communicate with citizens in this way.
