Filenews 16 December 2025
OELMEK is also entering the dance of measures, which decided today to go on strike, protesting against provisions and points of the bill for the evaluation of teachers.
The teachers' organization will carry out a work stoppage like the POED, next Thursday from 7:30 to 9:00 in the morning.
This is a decision of the central Board of Directors of OELMEK, which met today for almost three hours. Information from Filenews states that the organization has very serious objections to the chapter of the formative evaluation and points proposed by the Ministry of Education.
It is recalled that the Plenary Session of the Parliament will decide on the bill next Monday.
OELMEK's post in detail:
The CPC of OELMEK, in today's session, after examining the data and the latest developments around the Evaluation Plan, decided to declare a work stoppage of the members of the Organization on Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.
OELMEK reaffirms the positions it submitted in writing to the Parliamentary Committee on Education on November 26, 2025.
Our disagreement with specific provisions of the Regulations
The proposed Plan maintains regulations that have been repeatedly rejected by OELMEK and by the vast majority of teachers, as recorded in the Referendum of 29/5/2025 (92%).
Indicatively, we mention:
• the disagreement with the participation of the Consultant Inspector in the Formative Evaluation,
• the disagreement with the numerical evaluation of teachers by the Director.
The aim and anxiety of OELMEK was and is to move to a new teacher evaluation system that will be humane, democratic and functional, away from bureaucratic procedures.
A system that will strengthen and strengthen the Public School.
The issue of Evaluation will be addressed by OELMEK at the scheduled Pancyprian Conference of General Representatives that will convene on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. The PSGA will also determine our future trade union reaction.
We call on our colleagues to be vigilant, unanimous and unity, in order to prevent plans that undermine the proper functioning of the Public School and undermine democracy.
