 Filenews 19 December 2025

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announced the payment of a lump sum to beneficiaries of the support measures decided due to the recall of an airbag, in the context of the cancellation of the certificate of suitability of vehicles that had not undergone airbag replacement.

As reported, the payment was made on Thursday, December 18, 2025 by the Department of Road Transport, in cooperation with the Welfare Benefits Management Service of the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare, following a decision of the Council of Ministers of November 5, 2025.

The lump sum allowance amounted to €100 for each week of immobilization of the vehicle and was paid in cases where the vehicle had been immobilized from 31 October 2025 or earlier and an airbag replacement appointment had been arranged until January 2026. Beneficiaries were recipients of the Guaranteed Minimum Income, low-income pensioners, single-parent and large families, as well as owners of disabled vehicles, provided that they did not have another vehicle.

For the first categories, the amount was paid to the accounts kept by the Benefits Service, while for the owners of disabled vehicles, the payments are expected to be completed within the next few days. The payment concerns the period until November 30, 2025, with the Ministry announcing future payments, while it is recalled that free tickets for public passenger transport have already been granted.
