PARTY FOR THE ANIMALS - MOST PET SHOPS OPERATE ILLEGALLY - CALLS AGAIN FOR A BAN ON THE SALE OF ANIMALS

 Filenews 3 December 2025

The fact that most pet shops operate illegally, denounces the Party for the Animals of Cyprus.

As it states in its announcement, there are at least 100 stores selling animals and food in Cyprus. The information in the possession of the Party for the Animals of Cyprus is that only 40 of them hold the relevant licenses from the Veterinary Services. The rest, as he states, operate illegally, as far as the part of the sale of animals or birds, etc. is concerned.

The veterinary services, the party adds, have given until the end of the year for those who did not secure the necessary licenses for the sale of animals to comply, otherwise they will be banned from selling animals (except for food) and a possible fine of €1,000.

The Party for the Animals emphasizes that, "over time, it has called for a complete ban on the sale of animals, and especially dogs, cats or birds, when at the same time private shelters are flooded, when at the same time our country is facing a problem with abandoned ones, it is now unfair to continue selling animals, instead of adopting the already existing innocent animals that have been in shelters for 2 or 3 or 5 years."

"The Party for the Animals of Cyprus will monitor the situation and at the same time will continue its campaign of 'WE DO NOT BUY ANIMALS, BUT WE ADOPT'", THE ANNOUNCEMENT CONCLUDES.
