Waiting for the results of the tender announced by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism on September 17 for the expression of interest for the submission of bids for the construction of the Paphos Marina at the Potima location of Kissonerga, the institutions of the province are waiting. The assessment and wish of everyone in the province is that this process will be completed at the beginning of the new year so that the ambitious project can then be put on the rails for implementation and not get bogged down for the umpteenth time in the legal procedures.
The project is considered of capital importance for the further tourist, economic and commercial development of the province and everyone's expectation is that the umpteenth re-announcement of the tender, all these decades, will prove to be the final one this time.
According to the announcement, the project includes a marine development including a Marina with a capacity of one thousand berths for pleasure boats, both for the sea and for the land zone. The berths should amount to 70-80% of the total capacity of the marina, while for land the remaining percentage.
The announcement also includes residential and commercial development that may concern hotel infrastructure, as well as cruise ship accommodation infrastructure.
For the purposes of the project, the announcement states, the Government of the Republic of Cyprus intends to proceed with a two-phase open-ended process, which includes the current expression of interest phase and then the call for tenders phase.
The President of the Republic also referred to the Paphos Marina, during the recent presentation of the major projects planned in the province by the Government. The announcement of the Paphos Marina, said President Christodoulides, is a landmark project, which is expected to highlight the city as a top maritime and tourist destination.
This is a development of 165,000 square meters, with the capacity to accommodate 1,000 yachts, which will strengthen the economy, create new jobs and upgrade the overall tourism product of the province, he stressed.
