ONCOLOGY FOR CYBER ATTACK - HACKERS THREATENED AND PROCEEDED TO PUBLISH SOME PERSONAL DATA

The Oncology Department of the Bank of Cyprus confirms the breach of personal data of patients and employees by hackers, who even proceeded to an unauthorized publication.

The announcement

The Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre dutifully informs that a malicious third party has proceeded to unauthorized publication of some data that was illegally removed from its systems. This negative development confirms that the initial indications corresponded to a genuine data breach.

From the moment the incident was detected, the Center filed a complaint with the Police, properly informed the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection and the Digital Security Authority and cooperates intensively with specialized teams of engineers and cybersecurity consultants.

So far, it has been confirmed that the criminal elements behind the malicious attack unfortunately gained access to patients' personal data as well as employee data, for which they threaten further disclosure in the media and social media.

The case is being handled by the Center's Management in full coordination and in accordance with the instructions of the competent state authorities, while additional measures have been implemented to enhance the security of the systems.

The Center is committed to dealing with the situation and protecting the personal data of its patients and employees, while its operation continues normally.
