"Lack of clear political will from the current Government for the need to redefine the course with the aim of declaring Hersonissos a National Park of international standards", the Ecological Intervention Friends of Akamas ascertains, as stated in its announcement, after the holding of a General Assembly, adding that this "leads to the gradual degradation of the area and its permanent destruction".
It also calls for "strengthening the communities, in the context of the overall planning, in a way that ensures the viability of the area", as well as for "the immediate creation of a Deputy Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in order to curb the frantic destructive development and to deal with the key environmental problems and their catastrophic effects".
It also expresses the assessment "that the assumption by the Republic of Cyprus of the Presidency of the European Council should be an opportunity to promote the environmental work of the Government and not to record cases of complaints to the European Commission for infringement".
He also recalls the need for "a revision of the entire philosophy of the projects in Akamas in order to avoid both the waste of resources and the final destruction of the area", noting that only by declaring the area a National Park of international standards "will the sustainable development of the region, its communities and its people be ensured, with their support acquiring substantial content".
