Three poachers, as well as wild bird trapping devices, were located by the forces of the Anti-Poaching Unit of the National Police, conducting patrols in areas of the Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos districts.
According to a Police statement, during patrols in the last 48 hours, three persons were located in the Paphos district on 24/12/2025, hunting in a prohibited area. Extrajudicial fines of €3,000 were issued against them each.
Also, on 26/12/2025, as part of an investigation carried out in a field in the Larnaca district, seven wild bird trapping nets were located and confiscated, as well as a device that imitates wild bird sounds.
The investigation of the cases was undertaken by the Polis Chrysochous and Zygii Police Stations respectively.

The Police had a dynamic and targeted presence in key points of urban areas during the night, continuing its enhanced operations with the main axis of preventing serious criminal acts, protecting citizens and ensuring public order.
In the context of these preventive operations, special emphasis was placed on dealing with serious forms of crime, resulting in the arrest of 11 persons on a nationwide basis.
Specifically:
In the province of Limassol, six arrests were made, related to possession of offensive weapons (knife and iron fist), burglary of a house, possession of a counterfeit banknote, illegal stay and possession of narcotic substances.
Also, as part of the investigation of traffic offenses, six cars and two motorcycles were detained.
In the province of Paphos, three arrests were made related to the offenses of illegal entry into the territory of the Republic, carrying knives, drunkenness and causing concern, while a car was also detained as part of the investigation of traffic offenses.
In the provinces of Nicosia and Famagusta, two more arrests were made involving possession of burglary tools, illegal possession of property and possession of narcotic substances.
At the same time, during last night, extensive inspections were carried out on a number of premises, with the aim of timely prevention and suppression of delinquent phenomena.
As far as the road network is concerned, more than 900 inspections were carried out, from which 120 traffic complaints emerged. Of these, 55 were related to driving under the influence of alcohol, while seven drivers were found positive in a preliminary drug test.
These operations are part of a broad, continuous and strengthened preventive plan of the Police, with increased police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action in all provinces, with the aim of preventing crime and strengthening the sense of security of citizens.

Sheets of paper impregnated with a prohibited substance, possibly narcotics, were found as part of intensive controls, in the possession of a 40-year-old man from Nicosia, during his visit to the Central Prison to see a prisoner, who has been convicted of a case of homicide.
The 40-year-old was subjected to a body search by members of the Prison Department, as part of the strict and thorough checks applied following clear instructions from the Minister of Justice and Public Order.
Members of the Anti-Drug Service went to the place, who proceeded to arrest the 40-year-old, while a search followed in the vehicle and his home, where 14 grams of green dry cannabis plant matter and 2 grams of cocaine were found in his vehicle, while nothing reprehensible was found in his home.
This incident is part of the strict zero-tolerance policy applied to the Central Prisons, following clear instructions from the Minister of Justice for intensive and exhaustive controls, which will continue with even greater intensity.

The Larnaca District Court issued a five-day detention order yesterday to a 30-year-old resident of Larnaca district, to facilitate investigations, regarding cases involving vehicle arson, attempted arson and causing malicious damage.
The 30-year-old was arrested the day before yesterday, as part of an investigation into a case involving an attempted arson of a warehouse and lighting a fire in plastic baskets in a village in the province of Larnaca.
Testimony was obtained against the 30-year-old that he was involved in two other cases of vehicle arson, which were committed on December 16 and 23, for which he was also arrested.
The Kofinos Police Station continues the examinations.
