The Cyprus Police continues its increased presence on the streets. On Saturday night, a total of 572 checks were carried out on drivers, from which 258 complaints for various traffic offenses emerged.
During the traffic checks, 470 breathalyzer tests were carried out, of which 49 drivers were found positive and reported for driving under the influence of alcohol, while two drivers were found positive in a preliminary drug test.
As part of the investigation of traffic offenses, a total of eight vehicles were detained for further examination.
At the same time, two persons were arrested, one in Limassol who was wanted for a case of assault causing grievous bodily harm and one in Nicosia, for not providing a satisfactory sample for a final alcohol test.
These operations are part of a broad and constantly strengthened crime fighting plan, with an increased police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action in all provinces.

A case of attempted murder, with a 36-year-old victim, is being investigated by the Police, in Limassol. The 36-year-old was allegedly attacked by unknown persons, one of whom allegedly injured him with a sharp object.
Specifically, according to the Police, around 7 p.m. yesterday, while the 36-year-old was outside a café in Limassol, he was attacked by a group of people, who allegedly attacked him initially using electricity discharge devices. Subsequently, one of the above persons allegedly injured the 36-year-old with a sharp object.
The 36-year-old was taken by ambulance to a private hospital in Limassol, where he was found to have a wound to his left shoulder blade and was kept for treatment. According to the medical staff, his health condition is considered critical.
The TAE Limassol continues the examinations.
Update - The investigations and examinations of the Police continue at an intensive pace in relation to yesterday's attempted murder committed in the center of Limassol, specifically on the busy Anexartisias Street, at rush hour, during which dozens of citizens were in the area.
To investigate the case, an investigative team was set up by the Limassol Police Department, which from the first moment proceeded with extensive examinations. In this context, closed surveillance circuits from both shops and adjacent premises were put under the microscope, while various items were received from the scene for scientific and other examinations.
According to information from philenews, both the 36-year-old victim and the wanted man are said to be persons known to the authorities. The same information states that the wanted MOHAMAD TLEIS, aged 30, from Lebanon, is the owner of a barber shop located on Anexartisias Street.
It is noted that this particular barber shop had previously occupied the authorities, as on August 28, 2020, a new attempted murder was committed outside a specific premises. At that time, there was a fight between a number of people, during which a young person had been shot in the neck and was taken in serious condition to a hospital.
As for yesterday's attempted murder, it was committed in a café located at the junction of Anexartisias and Athinon streets, a few meters from the barber shop of the 30-year-old wanted man.
Specifically, around 7.00 on Wednesday afternoon, while the 36-year-old was outside the cafeteria, he was suddenly attacked by three people. Two of the perpetrators allegedly initially immobilized him using electrical discharge devices, while then a third person allegedly inflicted a sharp wound on him, causing him serious injury.
The 36-year-old was transported by ambulance to a private hospital in Limassol, where the treating doctors found that he had a wound to his left shoulder blade. His hospitalization was deemed necessary, while his health condition is characterized as critical.
The examinations of the TAE Limassol continue, with the authorities issuing an arrest warrant against the 30-year-old wanted man. At the same time, the motives behind the attack are also being investigated, since so far the reasons why the three people attacked the victim remain unknown.

The possibility of arson is being investigated, according to information from KYPE, by the police of the British Bases in relation to a fire that broke out at 2.39 in the early hours of Friday in a wooden external structure (pergola), of a premises in the Community of Dasaki Achna that was used as a food preparation area.
According to the Spokesman of the Fire Service, Andreas Kettis, to extinguish the fire, "the Larnaca fire stations responded with two fire trucks to support the Fire Service of the British Bases which responded with a fire truck".
As he stated in a post on X, the space, as well as its contents, suffered extensive damage. The heat and smoke also affected the paint as well as the equipment outside the building, he added.
According to Mr. Kettis, breathing apparatus, water pipes were used to extinguish the fire, while the interior of the building was also ventilated.

Two Greek Cypriots were the target of an attack in the occupied territories last Wednesday afternoon, while they were moving with their vehicle on the streets of occupied Famagusta.
A report by ANT1 cites the driver's complaint, who states that "while he was moving near the area of the church of Agia Ekaterini located on the borders of the fenced area, having a relative as a passenger, they heard two consecutive loud bangs that resounded like gunshots. The occupants realized that the vehicle had received two shots or an air gun hit."
As the Greek Cypriot driver reports to ANT1, "two gunshots were fired, loud sounds were heard even though the windows were closed.
From the incident, according to the ANT1 report, neither of the two occupants was injured, however material damage was caused to the vehicle.
"I didn't stop because of a blackout and as soon as I turned left I stopped when the road was illuminated, I went downstairs, looked at the car and saw 3 people leaving," the driver tells ANT1.
According to what the driver reports to ANT1, there was no provocation or incident. According to the relevant report, the driver had entered the occupied areas through the Deryneia roadblock, while on his return to the free areas, he chose another route for more safety.
According to the ANT1 report, the driver informed the Police Authorities of the Republic of Cyprus about the incident.

An 85-year-old man was taken to the hospital after he was allegedly attacked at his home, in the province of Nicosia, on Saturday afternoon, during a robbery.
According to a police announcement, on the basis of a complaint made by the 85-year-old, between the hours of 5 and 6.20pm on Saturday, while he was at his home in the province of Nicosia, an unknown person broke into it and entered it, where he attacked him and then stole a sum of money.
The 85-year-old was transported by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where he was detained for treatment. As it was found, he suffered a skull fracture, rib fractures, head bruises, swelling and a hematoma in the eye.
The Police are investigating a case of robbery, assault causing grievous bodily harm, burglary of a residence and theft. The examinations continue from the TAE of Morphou.

The Police are investigating an incident of assault on a referee, after the match of the Second Division between Karmiotissa and APEA Akrotiri, which took place yesterday in Limassol.
According to information, after the end of the match, tension was caused and there were pushes against the referee.
The authorities continue the investigations and statements are expected to be taken from all those involved.
