ATTENTION! SCAMMERS PRETEND TO BE BANKERS TO TRY TO DECEIVE CITIZENS

Filenews 5 December 2025

Frauds by fraudsters continue unabated. This time, the Police warn of new reports that have to do with phone calls and messages aimed at stealing money from unsuspecting citizens.

As it was found through new complaints made to the Police, the perpetrators communicate by phone with citizens, pretending to be bank officers, and ask citizens for details of their bank accounts, pretending that their bank accounts are deactivated and they need to register their details over the phone, in order to allegedly activate them again.

In some other cases, the perpetrators send text messages to persons who have various items posted for sale on internet platforms, and after convincing them that they intend to buy the items they have for sale, they send them an online link in order to register their bank details for their alleged payment.

As it was found through the police examinations, both of the above cases concern fraud.

Special caution is recommended since such telephone communications and allegations are false and aim to deceive and steal sums of money.
