WEST PAPHOS - SOLUTION TO THE TRAFFIC JAM WILL BE HELPED WITH THE NEW CORAL BAY AVENUE

Filenews 17 November 2025 - by Dora Christodoulou

The decongestion of traffic jams in western low Paphos and the upgrading of the image of the area will only occur through the implementation of the great goal of creating a modern four-lane traffic avenue from the Tombs of the Kings in Kato Paphos to Coral Bay in Pegeia. This is the message sent by the agents of the region, after the significant increase in the problems recorded this summer in traffic and the representations made by MPs and other bodies to the competent departments.

The processes to make possible a project of major importance, which has been on paper for many years, have recently received more and more frequent reports from agents and citizens. The aim is to create a modern quadruple avenue, which meets all modern standards of safety and service to citizens.

For this purpose, the first two meetings have already been held, one at the Ministry of Transport and one at the Akamas Municipal Hall, in Pegeia, with the aim of coordinating the state services and the project designers.

The upgrading of this road artery and the creation, essentially of a quadruple avenue, is of major importance for the entire low-lying area of Paphos, the Mayor of Akamas, Marinos Lambrou, stressed to "F", given that it is a coastal area in which almost 40% of the tourist accommodation in the province is concentrated.

However, until now, he pointed out, the existing road artery does not provide ideal levels of safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, while in many places it does not even have lighting and sidewalks.

The goal that has been set is to start construction of the project within 2026, stressed Mr. Lambrou, expressing the will of the Municipality of Akamas to assist as much as it can for the faster implementation of the major project.
