 Filenews 16 November 2025

Unacceptable behaviour of tourists was recorded at the sanctuary of Apollo Hylatis in Limassol. Visitors climbed to the top of the monument for photos, defying the regulations for the protection of the archaeological site.

After the introductions, the tourists descended from the monument.

It is worth noting that the incident is being investigated by the Police, while at the same time there is a question about the security and supervision of the monuments.

Translation of above - Today I was at the shrine of Apollo Ylatis in Limassol, a place that carries thousands of years of history, memory and culture. Yet, in this peaceful and sacred atmosphere, I felt a profound sadness. I saw people climb up the memorial as if it were just a photo setting, with no awareness of where they were.
It was as if something much bigger than a stone was hurting in front of me it was our relationship with our past. How easily we forget that these monuments have stood here for centuries, yet they are so fragile in the face of indifference.
I felt sadness, anger, but also a sense of weakness watching a place that deserves only respect being invaded. It's not just an ancient monument; it's part of our identity, our heritage, and it hurts to see it treated with such recklessness.
