Civil engineers, technicians, as well as conservators of antiquities from the Department of Antiquities went this morning to the Monastery of Agios Neophytos, in Tala, Paphos, in order to closely inspect the damage caused in parts of the monastery by yesterday's strong earthquakes.

The scientists examined the cracks, the falls of small parts from external walls, as well as the frescoes and other points that have been affected by the seismic activity with the aim of immediately starting the restoration and strengthening works of the parts of the famous monastery that were damaged.

At the same time, the conservators of the Department of Antiquities will immediately begin the work of conserving the frescoes inside the church of the Monastery.

As it was also found today, damage was caused, in addition to the central building complex of the monastery, to the famous enkleistra of Agios Neophytos which is located in a rock just opposite the main entrance of the monastery.

In the meantime, calm returned today at the Monastery of Agios Neophytos and the monks have been carrying out their daily schedule since the morning, while the visits of faithful and organized groups of tourists are also carried out normally.
