Filenews 25 November 2025

Cyprus, France, Greece and Italy have decided to extend their cooperation on defence policy issues, within the framework of the Quadrilateral Cooperation (QUAD). According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, the Directors of Defense Policy of the four countries met on Monday in Larnaca and in a joint statement said that the meeting took place in the context of ongoing cooperation, "to advance our common vision for security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean".

It is added that since the launch of the Quad Initiative, countries have shown unity and determination in addressing the new security challenges in the region.

"The progress achieved through joint exercises, such as "EUNOMY", and the deepening of our operational cooperation, have strengthened our collective ability to safeguard our common interests and promote peace," it said.

It was agreed to expand the scope of joint training activities, with a particular focus on emerging areas such as cyber defence, hybrid threats and maritime security, to improve coordinated crisis response mechanisms, ensuring swift and effective action in the face of unforeseen developments, and to enhance innovation and exchange of best practices to address new and complex security challenges.

The four countries reinforce their commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes, upholding diplomacy as the cornerstone of our approach to regional stability, and declaring support for international law and the principle of free navigation, recognising their importance for prosperity and security in the Eastern Mediterranean.

"Looking ahead, we are determined to further elevate the effectiveness and vision of the QUAD Initiative, confident that our collaboration will bring tangible benefits for our countries and the wider region," the statement concludes.
