ADVICE TO PREPARE FOR BAD WEATHER

 Pafos Live 29 November 2025

The Civil Defense Force made recommendations to the public, with the aim of prevention and proper preparation for minimizing the risks and negative consequences in view of the bad weather Adele, following a relevant announcement by the Department of Meteorology regarding isolated strong storms and winds and/or hail that are expected to affect the island from time to time initially in the west and north and progressively in the rest of the areas.

According to the Force, citizens are asked to take self-protection measures against floods. In particular, they are asked to make sure that the manholes outside their home or workplace are not blocked and that the gutters in their premises are working normally.

In addition, if they have a basement in a vulnerable area with a risk of flooding, they are asked to proceed with the drilling of a special water accumulation pit and install an automatic water pump, removing valuable objects or expensive equipment from the basement, while if they live on a plot with a yard, they are asked to leave – where possible – free soil, so that the earth can absorb water.

They are also asked to fix objects that may be swept away by the water and move (e.g. tanks, water heaters, etc.), to repair any openings in fencing walls, to prepare sandbags that will prevent the inflow of water into the premises, if it is in an area at risk of flooding, while in case of information about the occurrence of heavy rainfall, They are asked to limit their movements and avoid working and staying in underground spaces.

Regarding measures during the flood, those inside a building are asked to leave underground spaces and move to a safe high spot.

Similarly, those who are in an open space are asked not to cross a flooded road on foot or by car/bicycle/motorcycle, to stop and change direction if they find themselves on a flooded road, to abandon their car if it has been immobilized, as it may drift or be flooded, to stay away from power lines and not to approach areas, in which landslides have occurred.
