The come-and-see took place on Friday morning in the parliamentary Finance Committee, which is examining the budget of the Ministry of Energy for 2026.
The occasion was the positions of DISY MP Kyriakos Hatzigiannis, who persistently called on the Minister of Energy Giorgos Papanastasiou to reveal the shareholders of the Euroasia interconnector.
In response, Energy Minister Giorgos Papanastasiou stated that in order for the European Public Prosecutor's Office to investigate the electrical interconnection as promoted by EuroAsia, it was after a complaint in October 2024, which concerned the previous body.
Mr. Hatzigiannis, addressing the minister, called on him not to name the shareholders but to reveal who was behind EuroAsia. "Who did the EU trust and fund the project?" was asked.
In response, the minister reiterated that there was a complaint, it concerned Euroasia and the transition period to the new implementing body (IPTO). "I don't know the real beneficiaries, Euroasia has been operating since the time of the previous government," he said.
The DISY MP insisted on his question: "Who did the EU and you trust?".
The tone rose with DIKO MP Chrysis Pantelidis intervening and stating that the president of the strategic council of EuroAsia was Ioannis Kasoulides (S.F. during a period when he was not a minister), calling on the minister to take a position.
Kyriakos Hatzigiannis said that this was not the question, again calling on the minister to state who is behind EuroAsia.
The reaction of DISY MP Nikos Sykas was intense when the president of the Finance Committee Christiana Erotokritou allowed the deputy president of the Committee (Chrysis Pantelidis) to mention names. Angry, Christiana Erotokritou said that the procedure in the Finance Committee is not al carte. The following dialogues followed:
Nikos Sykas, addressing the president of the Committee, said: "Put the process in order, how do you allow a member of the committee to say names?".
Christiana Erotokritou: "If you don't like the way I am presiding, complain to the Speaker of the Parliament. This is not a café."
Sykas: "You're making it a café, come on, Christiana."
Christiana Erotokritou: "I invite you to withdraw it."
Sykas: "I'm withdrawing it."
For his part, the minister noted that when the Government took over the project it was under the umbrella of EuroAsia, stressing that "we have no responsibility" for what preceded it.
