RELEASE OF POLICE OFFICERS FROM NON-POLICE DUTIES - WHAT WAS DECIDED

 Filenews 23 October 2025

In a meeting held today with the participation of Mr. Marios Hartziotis, Minister of Justice and Public Order, Mr. Nikolas Ioannidis, Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection, Mr. Themistos Arnaoutis, Chief of Police, as well as officials of the competent Services and Departments, one of the long-standing demands of the Police was discussed: its disengagement from non-police duties.

In the context of the meeting, it was decided to gradually release the members of the Police from duties that fall, mainly, under the competence of the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection. This decision is part of the broader strategy to strengthen the operational capacity of the Police, so that it can focus on purely front-line police duties, with an emphasis on migration management.

The implementation of the decision is expected to enhance the effectiveness of the Police in dealing with irregular migration, illegal employment and the fight against human trafficking networks.

Finally, the commitment of all stakeholders to continue good cooperation and communication was reaffirmed, with the aim of achieving tangible and substantial results for the benefit of public order and security.
