The Police announce an enlightenment and policing campaign to distract from driving and to deal with driving without free hands (use of a mobile phone or other object).
The pan-Cypriot traffic controls start tomorrow, Monday, October 6, 2025 and will last until next Sunday, October 12, 2025. This campaign will be carried out simultaneously at the European level, in the context of the cooperation of the Police with the European Traffic Police Network Roadpol.
Driver distraction is one of the most important factors that contribute to increasing the likelihood of getting involved in a road collision, as it limits reaction time, while driving using a mobile phone also plays a decisive role.
In the three-year period 2022 – 2024, 21.4% of road deaths and 24.3% of serious road injuries were due to distraction while driving, making it the number one cause of serious and fatal road injuries.
In addition, traffic checks will also be carried out for traffic violations that are the main causes of fatal and serious road collisions (failure to use a seat belt and protective helmet, violation of speed limits, driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs).
