PAPHOS FIGHTS SEASONALITY

PAPHOS FIGHTS SEASONALITY

Approximately 10,500 vacant beds in full operation during the winter period.  Despite the suspension of operations of a number of tourist accommodations, the Paphos District is expected to have several thousand beds available in full operation and will offer a wide range of accommodations with the capacity to accommodate thousands of visitors during the period December 2025 - March 2026.

This year, in a recording completed by the Paphos Region Tourism Development and Promotion Company in collaboration with the members of the Paphos PA.SY.XE., STEK and other individual hoteliers, it appears that, for the winter months between December 2025 –March 2026, approximately 10,500 beds will be in full operation as last year.

Approximately 35% of the total licensed beds in the province. It is noted that there is no information on the number of short-term rental beds that remain in operation either year-round or seasonally. The 10,500 vacant beds cover all accommodation categories, while most units that suspend their operation are limited to the months of December to February. Although there is a relatively satisfactory air connection during the winter period with approximately 125 incoming flights per week from 40 airports as well as better recognition of the destination in various important tourism source countries, the upcoming winter period is expected to be a relatively difficult period. The Paphos Tourism Authority notes that the plans/incentives to prevent the suspension of the units have not brought the desired results.

At the same time, ETAP calls on the state to consider providing generous incentives during the winter period and to develop policies to enhance competitiveness and reduce the unbearable operating costs of tourism/hotel/food and other businesses. To strengthen promotion efforts in tourism source countries and to consider the possibility of providing incentives to tour operators and airlines in order to achieve the long-awaited reduction in seasonality and extension of the season.

The goal of Paphos Tourism is to keep around 17,000 beds licensed by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism in operation and to achieve high occupancy rates all year round.

The Paphos Tourism Authority has every guarantee to achieve year-round operation in the coming years!
