PAPHOS AREA - BUS STOPS

PAPHOS AREA - BUS STOPS

The image of bus stops in the entire Paphos district is third-worldly and unacceptable The Paphos Region Tourism Development and Promotion Company feels obliged to restore once again the unacceptable situation and degraded image that the bus stop shelters of both urban and interurban lines emit throughout the district.

At a time when all bodies are investing millions in upgrading the quality of the urban environment, tens of millions in upgrading infrastructure and tens of thousands of euros in promotion to communicate the new upgraded image of the city and district at the same time we are shooting ourselves in the foot due to the inadequacy and irresponsibility of the Ministry of Transport.

Every day we present to our millions of visitors and to the thousands of passers-by in our province the unacceptable and third-world condition of bus stop shelters. The facilities are outdated. Many times they have no shelter, no seats, and no perimeter coverage. They have no trace of technology, digital or other information. The infrastructure for people with disabilities is non-existent. Particularly in the countryside, we have identified 40 different types of bus stops/shelters, most of which today give off an unacceptable image of abandonment. Some shelters are made of aluminium, some of wood, some of stone, some of sheet metal and some of other cheap materials. The new bus shelters that have been installed have made us a laughing stock all over the planet since, in addition to the much-discussed construction errors, due to their complete inadequacy, they do not provide even sufficient space/seats nor a basic shade/protection from the climatic conditions.

Not to mention how progressive we are that there is no online ticketing service for routes, nor purchase of electronic tickets, e.g. from platforms, nor is there an option to purchase with a credit card on the bus, only cash.

We call on the authorities to take immediate and drastic measures to improve the entire situation that exposes our country to the world! The issue should be resolved before the start of the new tourist season in February 2026.
