PANCYPRIAN BLACKOUT - WHAT HAPPENED THIS MORNING?

Around 6:30 on Wednesday morning, various areas throughout Cyprus were left without electricity.

According to EAC spokesperson Christina Papadopoulou, the outage was due to a failure in the Power Generation System.

The power outage was short and lasted about 15 minutes. 

The announcement of the Transmission System Operator

A technical failure in the Production System occurred this morning at 6:33, affecting the electricity supply in various areas of Cyprus. The supply was restored about half an hour later.

According to the announcement, the failure resulted in the loss of the AT/S 3 Production Unit at the Vassiliko Power Plant charged to 108 MW, resulting in the rejection of consumer load.

In a subsequent announcement, it is stated that the electricity supply to consumers affected by the technical failure in the Production System, was restored for the most part at 7:03 am, while efforts to restore the supply continued in the communities of Orounta, Temvria and Ergates.
