MANNEKEN PIS IN BRUSSELS COMMEMORATED INDEPENDENCE DAY WEARING CYPRIOT BREECHES

 Filenews 1 October 2025

With a special ceremony in the center of Brussels, the famous Manneken Pis statue was dressed in the traditional Cypriot breeches, commemorating the 65th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Cyprus.

The event took place in the presence of the Ambassador of Cyprus to the EU, Petros Mavrikios, and dozens of Cypriots who were present at this symbolic moment.

This particular Cypriot costume was donated to the Municipality of Brussels by the Cyprus Embassy in 2010, on the occasion of that year's Independence Day. On the other days, the costume is exhibited in the museum "Manneken Pis, a very European resident of Brussels", along with dozens of other national costumes of EU member states.
