HOW DO SALARIES COMPARE BETWEEN CYPRIOTS AND FOREIGNERS FOR THE SAME WORK?

In the labour market, there are multi-speed wages, depending on the profession, the qualifications of the employees, depending on gender, but there are differences in the earnings that exist between Cypriots and non-Cypriots for work in the same economic activity. But which are the professions where the average monthly earnings are higher for Cypriot workers and lower for non-Cypriots and in which occupations the average monthly earnings are higher for non-Cypriots and lower for Cypriots.

The data announced by the Statistical Service highlight the differences in wages depending on the sector of economic activity. Non-Cypriot employees appear with the highest average monthly earnings of €6,172 in the category of financial and insurance activities, with a fairly large difference from the average monthly earnings of Cypriots which is €4,129. Another category where non-Cypriot workers have higher monthly earnings of €5,083 is the information and communication sector. Cypriot workers follow by far with the average monthly earnings amounting to €3,197, according to the Statistical Service. In the economic activity arts, entertainment and entertainment, the average monthly earnings of non-Cypriots are higher and reach €2,731 while that of Cypriots is €1,891. In the category of other public bodies, the average monthly salary of non-Cypriots is €3,707 and that of Cypriots €2,340. In the mining and mining sector, the average monthly salary of non-Cypriot workers is €4,173 while that of Cypriots is €3,123. In the transport and storage category, the average monthly salary of non-Cypriots is 2,767 and Cypriots €2,601. The average monthly salary of non-Cypriots is €3,521 in the category of professional, scientific and technical activities and of Cypriots €2,653. The highest average monthly earnings are for non-Cypriots working in the field of public administration and defence, compulsory social security which reaches €3,444 and for Cypriots it is €3,278. The same is true in the field of education, with the average monthly earnings of non-Cypriots being €2,428 and Cypriots being €2,280.

That stand out

But let's also see in which categories the wages offered to Cypriots are higher than non-Cypriot workers. In the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector, the average monthly earnings of Cypriot workers are €1,677 while non-Cypriots are much lower and reach €650. The manufacturing sector offers higher average monthly earnings to Cypriots reaching €2,002 and non-Cypriots being €1,628.

Cypriots working in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning sectors have an average monthly salary of €3,585, much higher than the average monthly salary of non-Cypriots which is €2,259 according to the Statistical Service. Cypriot workers employed in the water supply, wastewater treatment, waste management and sanitation activities sector have an average monthly salary of €2,472, well above the average monthly salary of non-Cypriots which is €1,572, according to the Statistical Service. In construction, the average monthly earnings of Cypriots is €1,952 while non-Cypriots are lower at €1,580. Cypriots employed in the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles have an average monthly salary of €1,831 while non-Cypriots have an average monthly salary of €1,659. The average monthly salary of Cypriots in the category of accommodation and food service activities is recorded by the Statistical Service at €1,785 and that of non-Cypriots at €1,434.

Remuneration is similar in the education category and the average monthly salary for non-Cypriots is €2,428 and for Cypriots €2,280.
