Filenews 19 October 2025 - by Ioanna Mantziipa

The 44-year-old suspect in the murder of 49-year-old Stavros Demosthenous, which shocked society, was brought before the Limassol District Court under draconian measures. Very serious offenses are being investigated against the suspect, who is the owner of the perpetrators' escape motorcycle, with him denying any involvement, emphasizing that the motorcycle was immobilized.

The Police, through the investigator Elias Kreouzos, requested the detention of the suspect for eight days, in order to continue the investigations that are in full swing.

The suspect is being investigated for offenses related to, premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit murder, arson of a motor vehicle, illegal possession, transport and use of explosives, illegal possession, transport and use of a firearm, as well as theft of a car, which was stolen on September 4, 2024 from Kokkinotrimithia, worth approximately €5.000.

The investigator of the case stated before the Court that so far 16 statements have been taken, while five searches have been carried out in houses and premises related to the case. In addition, 70 more statements are expected to be taken, as well as examinations will be carried out concerning the suspect's movements before and after the time of the crime.

During the process, the investigator revealed that, according to testimonies, two persons were seen riding a motorcycle at the scene of the crime, one wearing a helmet and the other a hat, which even fell on the road during their escape. One of the two men was reportedly carrying a bag on his back, which is considered important for the investigation of the case.

In addition, that the white van involved in the deadly attack was seen going around the area in the previous period, which highlights that the victim was under surveillance or that the perpetrators were planning the execution.

The Police have already located and confiscated the motorcycle, which was hidden in an area of eastern Limassol, while two mobile phones of the suspect have been received and sent for scientific examinations.

The 44-year-old, who was arrested at his home on Saturday night, denies any involvement, telling investigators that he "has no idea" about the case. In addition, he stated about the motorcycle that it had been immobilized for months (since 31.1.2025), but it has not been declared stolen.

The Court, after hearing the arguments of the Prosecution and the defense, approved the request for eight-day detention, considering that there are sufficient reasons to continue the investigations and avoid influencing witnesses.

The investigators of the TAE Limassol continue the investigation intensively, examining all the evidence linking the suspect to the execution of Stavros Demosthenous and trying to fully map the path of the perpetrators before and after the murder.

A second vehicle has been put under the microscope of the investigators

As reported by Filenews, a second vehicle has been put under the microscope of the investigators, which is estimated to have been used by the perpetrators to escape after the murder. The investigations are expanding in all directions, while the Police are examining videotaped material from closed surveillance circuits in various parts of the city, looking for evidence that will lead to the full investigation of the crime.

It is recalled that the perpetrators, after the execution of Stavros Demosthenous, abandoned and set fire to the van they used when committing the crime, in order to eliminate their traces.

According to the investigators' estimates, they then escaped on a large and dark-coloured scooter.

The next 24 hours are considered decisive for the course of the investigations, as well as the analysis of the evidence and the possibility of making new arrests.

It is recalled that yesterday the autopsy on the victim's body was performed at the Nicosia General Hospital, by the medical examiner Nicolas Charalambous. According to our information, at least two bullets hit the victim in the head, while based on the findings of the medical examiner, the death is due to a severe craniocerebral injury caused by firearm bullets.

Death ambush 500 meters away from his home

Time stopped around 09:30 on Friday morning, when Stavros Demosthenous received a barrage of fire while he was in a luxury rental vehicle, in the passenger seat, about 500 meters from his home, in the area of Sfalagiotissa. The vehicle was driven by his 18-year-old son, when during their course, a white van entered in front of them and stopped their course, forcing the young man to slow down. Then, the doors of the van opened and one of the perpetrators started shooting at Demosthenous, managing to fatally hit him.

After completing their mission, the perpetrators fled, fleeing the scene. A few minutes later, a vehicle with the same description was found on fire in the area of Germasogeia. The examinations revealed that it is the same vehicle used in the execution. As established by the police investigations, the van had been declared stolen on September 4 in the province of Nicosia.

Immediately after the attack, the victim's son, despite the shock he suffered, tried to drive and transport his father to the Hospital. As they were moving on the highway, at the height of Tsirio, their vehicle was involved in a traffic accident, as a result of which it was immobilized. According to reliable information from "F", the 18-year-old stopped a passing citizen and asked him to take them to the Limassol General Hospital. The citizen responded immediately, but by the time the victim arrived at the hospital, he was already dead. The same sources report that Demosthenous received at least two bullets in the head.
