CRIME ROUND UP

At around 02:30 this morning, while members of the Traffic Police Headquarters were conducting a speed check on the Limassol - Nicosia highway at the height of the G.S.P. stadium in Strovolos, they stopped a vehicle that was being driven at a speed of 190 instead of 100 km/h. Upon checking the driver's details, it was found that he was a 19-year-old, who in a final alcohol test he underwent, was found positive with a reading of 21μg% instead of 9μg%, which is the limit permitted by law.

The 19-year-old was arrested for flagrante delicto, while he was subsequently released after first signing a surety bond to appear tomorrow, Monday 20/10/2025, before the Nicosia District Court, where a case is expected to be registered against him for the traffic offenses he committed. The Latsia Police Station continues its examinations.

A small amount of cannabis was found on Thursday (17/10) at the Deryneia Crossing Point, during checks carried out by officials of the Customs Department.

According to an official announcement, during a physical check on a vehicle driven by a 60-year-old British citizen, seven (7) handmade cigarettes and four (4) aluminum packages, which contained cannabis with a total gross weight of 7,2 grams, were found among his personal belongings.

The 60-year-old was arrested for a flagrante delicto, while the drugs were confiscated by the Customs Department. As part of the cooperation between the competent services, the seized items were handed over to the Anti-Drug Service (YKAN) for further investigation of the case.

The examinations continue by the Echelon of YKAN Famagusta.

An attack on a 41-year-old man is being investigated by the Police in Nicosia.

According to the information under investigation, the victim allegedly arranged a meeting from a dating app with another person.

When he went to the agreed place yesterday at midnight, an unknown person attacked him with a fist in the face, from which the victim was slightly injured.

The Police are investigating whether the person who attacked him is the same as the one who had made an appointment, while according to the testimony of the 41-year-old, the perpetrator was with another person, who, however, does not seem to have exercised violence on him.

The Police continued the coordinated policing and control operations in Larnaca last night, in the context of the actions to combat crime, as well as to deal with phenomena of juvenile delinquency.

The large-scale policing operation began at 8.00 on Saturday night and ended at 5.00 on Sunday morning, with members of the Police conducting patrols and checks in various areas of the city and province of Larnaca.

As a result of the policing measures, five (5) persons were arrested for flagrante delicto. Specifically, two persons aged 25 and 19 were arrested for the crime of stabbing, while a third person, aged 42, was arrested for the crime of possession of a device for launching harmful gases. The 25-year-old was also arrested for the crime of possession of a small amount of cannabis plant material, while he was also found positive in a preliminary driving test under the influence of drugs.

A 33-year-old person was also arrested for possession of a small amount of cannabis, while a fifth person, aged 19, was arrested for possession of a firearm cartridge, 7,62 mm calibre.

In the context of traffic checks, 23 complaints were made for various traffic violations.

Policing actions, for the prevention and suppression of crime and all forms of delinquency, continue every day, with the aim of increasing the sense of security of citizens.
