COMPLAINTS ABOUT ONLINE FRAUD ARE BEING INVESTIGATED BY THE CONSUMER PROTECTION SERVICE - CITIZENS PAID BUT DID NOT RECEIVE ORDER

 Filenews 17 October 2025

The Consumer Protection Agency (CPS) said it had received complaints from citizens claiming to have been scammed by online businesses, including the social media page Amalia Limassol.

More specifically, as stated in an announcement, consumers complain that they placed orders for products, paid the relevant price, but the products they received either did not correspond to the characteristics of those advertised or did not receive them. Their attempts to contact the e-business had no effect.

Furthermore, the Service has identified a similar website named Maria Nicosia on its website and social media, which appears to have serious deficiencies and violations of the law, as it notes and adds that the Service's efforts to contact this company have been fruitless.

In view of the above, the CPS calls on consumers to be especially careful and to avoid transactions with this website or pages with the same name on social media.

On this occasion, the Service reminds consumers that according to the legislation, a business that trades online must provide them with easy, direct and continuous access to basic information, such as its name, geographical address, e-mail address and telephone number, VAT registration number, and registration number, among others.

Finally, the Service advises consumers that under no circumstances should they make purchases from traders, whose only information they provide is a mobile phone number or an email address.
