A serious unexpected event, which fortunately had no other consequences for people, marked the training flight of two National Guard helicopters this morning in the province of Paphos. During the flight, one of the two helicopters detached and fell to the ground, in Pegeia, a component which is located at the bottom of these aircraft.
The component, which appears to be an armament base that this type of helicopter can carry, landed in a residential area and was picked up by the Police, who were informed by eyewitnesses of the incident.
According to the information of "F", the two helicopters of the National Guard based at the Paphos air base, are the new Airbus helicopters that the Republic recently procured for its defense needs. Two of them took off in the morning from the base to the area of Lara for their established educational activity.
Under conditions that will be examined, however, by the staff of the National Guard, the specific component detached from one helicopter and fell to the ground from a great height, as a result of which the helicopter rushed back to its base for checks, while the second helicopter remained in the area.
There was no statement from the Police, referring to the representatives of the Ministry of Defense about the incident.
