With their bank accounts inflated, 926 civil servants are expected to retire next year, who will receive tips of €102.3 million. In fact, the average lump sum received by each employee reaches €110,500.
These are employees who work in various sectors of the public sector and who will retire either due to age or early. Compared to this year, in 2026 the total amount of the lump sum is slightly higher. Specifically, in 2025, a total of 936 retired receiving a lump sum of €101.5 million, while next year fewer will retire receiving a larger amount of tips. It is noted that in the last nine years the state has paid a lump sum of €825.8 million to hundreds of retired civil servants.
In detail, according to the 2026 state budget, the 926 employees who will retire next year will receive the following tips:
-A total of 374 civil servants who will retire will receive a lump sum of €40 million. The average lump sum that each employee will receive will be €107,000. Of the total public sectors, 254 will retire due to age limit and 120 early.
-One-off €40 million will be shared between 358 teachers. The average amount they will receive is around €111,700. 298 will retire due to age and 60 prematurely.
– The state will pay 108 members of the Cypriot army who will retire tips of €13 million. The average tip that each employee will receive will reach €120,300. Of the 108 members of the Cypriot army, 78 will retire due to age and 30 early.
-A one-time tip of €2 million will also be paid to officials of the Republic who will retire due to the parliamentary elections.
-A total of 86 members of the police and the Fire Service when they retire will receive a lump sum of €7.3 million. The average tip will reach €86,500. The 56 will retire due to age and the rest prematurely.
– A lump sum of a total amount of €500,000 will be paid to employees who retire from the government due to their appointment to Public Law Organizations or other Organizations.
.-Tips €200,000 will be given to temporary on-site staff and temporary staff (SYOP) who are retiring.
€458 million will be paid in pensions
According to the 2026 state budget, the state will also pay an amount of €458 million for pensions to public employees. In fact, compared to this year, the amount is higher as €436 million will be paid by the end of the year. Specifically, in 2026, the state will pay an amount of €5.4 million for the pensions of state officials. An amount of €179 million will also be paid for pensions paid to retired civil servants and €128 million for pensions paid to retired teachers. In addition, pensions amounting to €50 million will be paid to retired police officers and firefighters and €26 million for pensions paid to retired military personnel. An amount of €67.5 million will also be paid for pensions paid to the widows and orphans of state employees.
