The president of EDA Paphos expressed today his full satisfaction with the efforts they made and the result they brought about to the executives of the Water Department and the contractor of the project for the repair and reopening of the Paphos Desalination Plant in Kouklia. Charalambos Pittokopitis visited the unit in Kouklia today to see up close its official reactivation and to be informed by the authorities about the plans that exist for the future.
Mr. Pittokopitis stressed that in a very difficult period for Paphos especially, everyone's efforts achieved the goal that at the beginning of the summer seemed impossible, that is, that there would be no cut in the water supply of Paphos households.
With the reopening of the permanent desalination plant, with a capacity of 15,000 cubic meters per day, he said, as well as with the full operation in October of the large mobile desalination unit in Potima, with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters per day, together with the current two smaller mobile units of 2,000 per day, we can say with relative certainty that we have now completely decarbonized from the weather conditions in terms of available drinking water, stressed the president of EOA Paphos. This becomes even more certain, he clarified, based on the recent announcement of President Christodoulidis during the pan-provincial meeting in Paphos that by next summer the Kouklia unit will rise from 15,000 cubic meters of daily capacity to 25,000 per day.
This independence of Paphos from the water supply, Mr. Pittokopitis pointed out, is of enormous importance beyond the convenience of the citizens, since it also means that significant amounts of stored water in the dams will now be able to be directed to the agricultural sector for irrigation.
