September is the month of #potavristou and AKTI invites you to take part! AKTI organizes #potavristou action every September and the process is simple: every group, every citizen can swim wherever they are, collect the garbage they see around them, measure it and send the data to AKTI's social networking pages on Facebook and Instagram. He can also upload the cleaning photos to his personal social networks with the hashtags #potavristou, #akti and #SeaTheChange.
In the six years of its implementation#potavristou more than 13200 volunteers participated, who collected 93 tons of garbage from 1315 locations in Cyprus and 358 locations abroad, from Singapore to California, Malta and Japan! From 2019 until today, #potavristou's action has gone beyond the borders of Cyprus: it was awarded in 2020 by the International Organization Ocean Conservancy, as one of the 10 most innovative actions worldwide for clean coasts and seas, and in 2021 by the network of Mediterranean NGOs for the environment and culture MIO-ESCADE.
In 2022, #potavristou's campaign once again received the support of the international organization Ocean Conservancy, as part of the #TeamSeas campaign, and was awarded a silver award at the Carob Awards 2022. In 2024, he received a special mention for the Society4Med awards organized by BlueMissionMed in the framework of the EU Mission Restore our Ocean and Water, in the category "Awareness and Communication Campaigns/Activities". This year, your participation in the #potavristou automatically puts you in a draw for unique prizes: · A hotel stay · A brunch at a well-known restaurant; As well as other surprises!
How to participate in the #potavristou in 4 simple steps: 1. Wherever you are, on a mountain, on a beach or even in a park or a field, in the city, in the village #potavristou and collect as much garbage as you can. 2. Count how much garbage you collected: e.g. 3 plastic cups, 5 bottles, 6 cigarette butts, 2 bags. 3. Take a photo of the garbage. 4. Upload the photo to Facebook/Instagram, with #potavristou, #teamocean and #akti, along with information about the garbage you collected, where you are (location) and how many people participated.
(In case your Instagram account is private, then upload them on Facebook, on your personal page tagged AKTI Project and Research Centre or send us a message on Messenger or Instagram.) What are you going to do with the garbage you collected? · If you're somewhere deserted, take them with you. ·
If the transfer is difficult, contact the nearest municipality to facilitate you or give you instructions. · If you are on a boat, take them out at the nearest port, in the corresponding bins; If there is access, put them in the recycling bins (there are several bins for PMD).
