The Association of Paphos Recreation Center Owners SIKAP has recently succeeded in concluding important labor agreements for the industry, said the president of SIKAP and Deputy Mayor of Paphos, Angelos Onisiforou, speaking to "F".
He pointed out in particular that in the last three years the industry has achieved many upgrades, but much remains to be done. The problem of finding staff was and remains one of the biggest, he stressed, but with the appropriate actions to the competent ministry, we have achieved a lot. While the authorities did not want to hear about employees from third countries, we managed as SIKAP but also with the close cooperation of OSIKA, to be able to bring employees from third countries, he said. We are constantly pressuring the Ministry of Labour and from what I am informed, the procedures are expected to be simplified even more very soon and the approval will now take place in 15 days.
It is expected, Mr. Onisiforou continued, that the percentage in relation to the community values that each company has, will increase to 70% to 80%, from the 50% that is currently in force. An important success of the sector, he stressed, is the replacement of political refugees who left businesses with employees from third countries, while regarding third-country students, we have succeeded in working in all jobs and it is expected that working hours will increase during the winter season as well.
Regarding the licenses that must be issued by the Municipality of Paphos, the president of the branch and Deputy Mayor of Paphos announced that the plenary has decided that the licenses for liquor and music should be issued every three years and not every year, however the issue must go to the Parliament, as he clarified.
