The creation of an integrated cycling network in the municipal area of Paphos and in the wider suburban area, is now characterized as an issue of high priority by the authorities, after the realization that the bicycle occupies an increasing part of the interests of citizens, but at the same time that the infrastructure for cycling is incomplete, endangering cyclists. Cycling bodies, as well as lovers of the sport, have recently pointed out these needs again, observing that despite the proclamations, the creation of a network for cycling that is safe for bicycle lovers remains without practical result in 2025 as well.
It is necessary, they observe, for the local authorities and the state to proceed with infrastructure projects and improvements in the Paphos district for the safe use of the bicycle from 2026. However, the implementation of the design is recognized as a difficult issue, given that it requires the study, design and development of an integrated cycling network which will be applicable, connective, integrated and adequate for the Municipality of Paphos and the surrounding areas and which will also present the possibilities of connection with the nearby Municipalities or even slightly more remote communities, providing safe routes and cycling experience to its users.
The existing network of bicycle paths that exists in Paphos is characterized as very poor and inadequate and is not used by those cyclists who would like to exercise in this way, since it is considered dangerous by many due to technical imperfections, which create conditions of reduced level of road safety.
These are roads that are places of daily exercise and walking for groups of cyclists and which, however, do not have the slightest safety for the movement of bicycles. The increasingly important portion of tourist and sports activities using bicycles, the authorities point out, makes it necessary to speed up the plans and projects so that in the summer of 2026 Paphos can advertise the destination as friendly and safe for cycling.
