The fire that broke out at noon on Wednesday (3/9) seems to have been caused by facial work that was in a field in the area of Gerasa, putting the Forestry Department and the Fire Service on alert.
According to information from Filenews, the Police are conducting investigations and taking testimonies, after information that a person earlier was carrying out work at the scene with emery, cutting off components and other metal objects from immobilized and abandoned vehicles that were at the scene.
The fire broke out around 12:25, in the community of Gerasa in the Limassol district, and was brought under full control about 35 minutes later. In total, the fire burned an area covered with wild vegetation, as well as scattered trees, including pine and almond trees.
30 people from the Forestry Department participated in the extinguishing operation with seven fire trucks and a tanker, while the efforts were also reinforced by the Fire Service with nine firefighters and three vehicles. In addition, four aircraft leased by the Republic contributed.
