EUROPEAN PROGRAMME ON 'RELIGIOUS AND CULTURAL TOURISM' - European Programme on ‘Religious and Cultural Tourism’ Project respects Religious, spiritual and pilgrimage European Cultural Tourism with Sustainability
The partners of the project are in Pafos for the first Thematic workshop
Within the framework of the actions foreseen by the programme, from 22 to 24 September, 16 partners from 8 countries are hosted in Pafos by the Pafos Regional Board of Tourism (PRBT) and participate in the first thematic workshop.
The theme of the workshop is: “Religious sites, monuments and sacred places as key elements for sustainable cultural tourism development.”.
At the workshop, good practices from all partners will be presented, and extensive discussions will take place on the important role played by religious assets, cultural routes, and more, in sustainable tourism development. At the same time, the project’s activities and various initiatives will be analysed.
The Interreg Europe programme, entitled ‘Religious Spiritual and Pilgrimage European Cultural Tourism with Sustainability’ (RESPECT), aims to examine, analyse, develop and promote policies and products related to religious, spiritual and pilgrimage tourism in various European destinations, always guided by sustainability, digitalisation, innovation and resilience.
The project involves 9 partners from Greece, Cyprus, Romania, Norway, Sweden, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova and Belgium.
The project is co-funded 80% by the European Union, has a duration of 36 months, and a total budget of €2 million.
The Pafos Regional Board of Tourism is expected to absorb funds of up to €200,000.
For Pafos, a particularly important initiative within the project is the set of actions related to Pafos Tourisms Board’s effort to have the “Footsteps of Apostle Paul” route registered as a Cultural/Religious Route of the Council of Europe.
