At €40 million the cost of repairing the damage suffered by buildings during the fire that broke out in Mountainous Limassol on July 23.
The estimates were made by ETEK, which informed the Ministry of the Interior about it.
According to ETEK, 90% of the cost of restoration/restoration of the damage concerns the buildings that were completely destroyed.
The average cost of restoring completely destroyed buildings was €115,000. The buildings that suffered total destruction range from 320.
According to the president of ETEK, Mr. Konstantinos Konstantis, an estimate was prepared and delivered for 650 cases. These include a small number of cases, about 40, for which clarification or confirmation is awaited. Of the total of 650, half were total destruction and the remaining half were partial destruction.
According to ETEK, about 220 cases were judged to have minor damages, which on average had a restoration cost of €3,700. About 100 cases were classified in the category of partial damage (moderate or significant) with an average restoration cost of €30,000. As the Chamber explains, the cost of restoring buildings that suffered total destruction had a large fluctuation, which reflects the scope, type, size and technology/quality of construction of the buildings in question. The average cost of restoring completely destroyed buildings was €115,000.
In total, ETEK received from the Ministry of the Interior about 760 requests related to damage to buildings or structures. About 100 cases were deemed to be outside the terms of the order, e.g. they concerned motor vehicles or mobile or other equipment that did not concern construction, etc. For the rest, the assessment made for the further was handed over to the Ministry.
The president of ETEK clarifies that the final decisions on the issue of compensation will be taken by the Ministry of the Interior.
The Chamber also notes that issues of unlicensed constructions or the existence of insurance coverage were not examined by the ETEK teams. He notes, moreover, that based on the information given by the Ministry of the Interior, there is also the possibility of submitting an objection to the Ministry.
The president of ETEK stated that the Chamber and the professional organizations of engineers have proven in practice their readiness and ability to assist the State and society in critical moments, ensuring rapid and reliable assessments for the restoration of damage.
On this occasion, ETEK wishes to thank all those who contributed, and in particular the professional organizations of architects, civil engineers, surveyors and contractors and each of the engineers who helped in this effort.
The estimates were delivered to the Ministry of the Interior on the 18th of this year.
It is noted that the assessment process began on August 5, just a few days after the meeting where the Minister of the Interior and the President of ETEK agreed that ETEK will assist in the whole effort.
The distribution of the restoration cost values of the cases that have been estimated is shown in the graph below.

Based on the methodology and the procedure followed, speed, transparency, standardization, massiveness and traceability were ensured to a very satisfactory extent.
