The Police are investigating a case of negligent and dangerous driving, as well as failure to stop at a police signal, offences committed last night in the Paphos district.
During traffic checks in Paphos, members of the Police signalled to a driver to stop for a check.
The driver did not comply and developed speed, driving dangerously and periodically using the opposite lane, with the risk of causing a road collision.
During the attempt to stop him, the suspect's vehicle stopped the course of the police vehicle that was following him, resulting in the service vehicle crashing into an embankment and suffering damage.
For the purpose of stopping the vehicle, the members of the Police fired a number of warning shots.
The vehicle was finally stopped in an area of Paphos and from the control that followed, it was found that the driver was a 32-year-old, with a 19-year-old passenger.
The 32-year-old was arrested under a pending fine warrant against him and was detained. In relation to the 19-year-old, nothing came out against her.

The 79-year-old , who was arrested as a suspect in the attack on his tenant last night was detained for a period of six days.
As it became known, the 57-year-old was attacked with a knife in the face inside the house where he lives with his partner. The suspect was brought today before the Limassol District Court, for the issuance of a request for his personal detention.
From the examinations carried out at the scene and according to the 57-year-old's cohabitation, yesterday, around 21:00, while they were returning home, they heard persistent knocks on the entrance door. At the same time, they found that the railings of the yard were tied with a chain and locked with a metal lock. When her husband opened the door, an unknown man grabbed him by the neck and threw him to the ground, in the living room. Then, using a knife he was holding, he wounded him in the face and punched him in both the face and abdomen, screaming at him. "I'm going to kill you..... and then I'll leave." Then the complainant's wife called the Police.
It should be noted that the perpetrator left the scene on a motorcycle of large displacement, which was driven by an accomplice who was waiting for him outside the house. The driver was wearing black clothes and a helmet also of black colour.
According to the complainant's partner, she gave a description of the perpetrator, while she mentioned that the house belongs to the 79-year-old, who has been renting it for the past two years. She also pointed out that in July the suspect asked the couple to leave the house, as this is where his daughter would settle. She asked for a time frame of 4-5 months, which, as she said, had been accepted by the suspect.
According to what was heard in the court, at the beginning of August the suspect cut off the supply of water and electricity. In addition, last Friday, while the 57-year-old's partner was absent from the house, two strangers went to the house, grabbed her husband by the throat and one of them – who claimed to be the suspect's nephew – threatened him that if they did not leave by the end of the month, they would kill them. And this incident was reported to the Police.
The complainant, after his attack, gave a description of both the perpetrator and the second man.
After his arrest, the 79-year-old denied any involvement in the case. The court ordered him to be detained for a period of six days, with the suspect's lawyer not objecting to his client's detention request.
The suspect is being investigated for offences of conspiracy to commit a felony, injury, causing grievous bodily harm, stabbing, threatening and illegal entry.

The Police handcuffed a 23-year-old foreigner from Syria, who is suspected of conspiracy to murder, attempted murder, arson, illegal possession of a firearm and explosives, theft and other offenses allegedly committed on August 14, 2025 in a car shed on the Larnaca - Dhekelia road. The 23-year-old is alleged to be one of the perpetrators of the criminal act. It is recalled that two more foreigners are already being detained for the case.
The arrest was made after a major operation by the Larnaca Police Department with other units and Police services at a foreigners' home in the suburbs of Nicosia. The Special Anti-Terrorist Squad of the MMAD also attempted to do so.
According to the Police, various items were identified from the investigations, which were received for scientific and other examinations.
The 23-year-old is expected to be brought tomorrow, September 3, 2025, before the Larnaca District Court, where the Police will request his personal detention.
The examinations continue from the TAE of Larnaca.
It is recalled that so far an 18-year-old from Romania, a 27-year-old from Syria and a 44-year-old convict in the Central Prison, also from Syria, have been arrested for the serious criminal act.
It is noted that the 44-year-old convict allegedly had a very key role in the criminal act. Specifically, he is alleged by witnesses to be the person who contacted his 27-year-old compatriot from prison and asked him to find a vehicle. He allegedly assigned the "job", for a fee, to the 18-year-old Romanian, who is suspected of stealing the vehicle used by the perpetrators in the early hours of August 14 in Pyla. The 44-year-old convict is serving a short prison sentence for an assault and stabbing case in Limassol, however, in the past he has been involved with the Police other times.
The criminal act was committed at 3:30 in the morning of August 14 and the stolen car, which is being sought, was used, according to the Police, for the trafficking of the perpetrators. It seems that three people were on board. The passenger allegedly held a pistol and fired at the security guard of the car rental company, with the bullet passing by him and nailing it to a pillar. A person sitting in the back seat of the car allegedly doused four of the company's vehicles with gasoline and set fire to them. The movements of the perpetrators, whose faces were covered with hoods, were recorded by a closed circuit surveillance.

The five elderly Greek Cypriots who were arrested for alleged espionage in the north on July 19 are due to appear before court in the north for the proceedings of their trial on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
On Friday 29 August, the police officer who was working at the crossing point that the five passed through before being arrested in Trikomo last month was called to give testimony, with his claims examined closely by the defence lawyers.
The five Greek Cypriots, three men, aged 68 years old, 66 years old, and 60 years old, and two women, aged 63 years old and 60 years old, had entered the north in the same car from the British Dhekelia base through the Strovilia crossing point near Famagusta on 19 July.
The police and prosecutors in the north, however, claim that only four identity cards were handed over for inspection on the Turkish Cypriot side of the crossing point. The five deny this.
In this context, one member of the group has been charged with illegally entering the north, while the other four have been accused of aiding and abetting the alleged illegal entry.
Salih Can Doratli, the defence lawyer for the five, had previously said that there was “no visual evidence which can prove otherwise”, adding that there had been “no specific allegation” levelled at two of the five, “other than that they were travelling in the same vehicle” as the other three.
He added that “some” of the five had filed applications regarding property in the area in which they were arrested with the Immovable Property Commission (IPC), and that this had made the documents they were carrying publicly accessible.
The five had been arrested in a residential area in Galatia, where they were reportedly seen “walking around with a blue folder” and “causing concern”.
A Turkish Cypriot representative later said the blue folder contained information about construction company directors in the north, and “personal data of title deeds” belonging to 14 Turkish Cypriot, four of which have since filed complaints regarding breaches of their privacy.
Earlier court proceedings had been attended by officials from the United Nations peacekeeping force in Cyprus (Unficyp).
According to Turkish Cypriot media reports, another hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday at 11 am.
