The Department of the Environment reminds the public that the entry of wheeled vehicles and pedestrians into the lakes of the Larnaca Salt Flats is prohibited throughout the year, especially when the lakes are without water.
According to the announcement, the passage of vehicles or pedestrians can destroy eggs and chicks that nest on the bare surface of the Alykes. In addition, human presence causes disruption of invertebrates that are the staple food of flamingos and other bird species. These invertebrates remain dormant in cysts on the surface, waiting for the rains to hatch.

For the safe visit of the area, the Department of the Environment invites citizens to use the designated paths, the bird observatory and the specially designed areas for rest and views along the routes.
