TALA FIRE 12 AUGUST

 Pafos Live 12 August 2025

A garbage collection crew of the Tala Community Council located the fire that broke out around 06:30 in the morning in the area of "Melissovounos". The workers contacted the community leader Giannakis Konnikos who mobilized the small fire truck of his community while calling the fire service.

The response was immediate from two other small fire trucks, from the Holy Monastery of Agios Neophytos which is located in close proximity from the point where the fire broke out, and from the firefighting vehicle of the neighboring community of Tremithoussa. The head of the community, Mr. Konnikos, said that in a very few minutes vehicles of the fire service arrived at the scene, while flying vehicles of the Republic proceeded to shoot in order to protect homes that were in danger. Community leader Talas said that for a few minutes the tenants of neighboring houses panicked and tried to move away from the houses that were in danger.

According to the spokesman of the Fire Service Andreas Kettis, the fire burned dry grass on a mountainside near residences.

Four fire trucks from fire stations in the city and the district of Paphos responded to extinguish it and were dropped by flying vehicles to protect the houses. Community leader Talas said that the time when the fire broke out is suspicious and the council is cooperating with the police to use closed circuits installed in the area.

While ground forces are literally battling the flames to tame the fury of a fire, there are those additional aids that prove to be decisive in being able to deal with a fire. A typical example is today's one in the Talas-Agios Neophytos area. While the firefighting forces on the ground did the impossible, the flames were threateningly approaching the houses until the moment when the pilot of the firefighting plane passed between the houses and, with a preventive drop, took advantage of the wind direction and "secured" the perimeter of the houses that were located to the South.
