The Traffic Police Department will take additional policing measures, especially on the motorways and especially in the section with three lanes.
Intensified police checks on traffic violations will be carried out, with particular emphasis on violations for non-compliance with the proper use of the motorway, such as the irregular use of a traffic lane and the irregular overtaking from the left lane, etc.
Due to the increased traffic that is expected to be observed on the road network in the coming days, the Police appeals to drivers to be particularly careful and to comply with the Road Traffic Code and traffic signals.
The improper use of the motorway, and especially in the section with three lanes, poses serious risks of causing a traffic collision.
All motor vehicles without exception must move in the left lane of the motorway.
As a general rule, any motor vehicle is prohibited from driving on the right or rightmost third lane of the motorway, even if it is moving at the maximum permitted speed, i.e. up to 100 kilometres per hour.
Drivers have the right to use the second and third right-hand lanes only to overtake another vehicle.
Once they have completed their overtaking, they return to their normal lane.
It is also allowed to use the second and third right-hand lanes to facilitate and give priority to another motor vehicle entering the motorway, or when for any reason the left lane is not free.
Driving in the two right lanes is then allowed for as long and distance as necessary to return to the left lane.
Buses, heavy-duty trucks and vehicles towing trailers are prohibited from moving in the right lane of the motorway.
The safety lane is delimited by a special continuous line marking and vehicles are not allowed to move on it, except in cases of emergency.
Overtaking from the left lane of the road is prohibited.
The violation for the irregular use of a traffic lane and the irregular overtaking from the left lane results in an out-of-court fine of €65.
