In addition to the 500 dates for driving licence exams, they were opened at the Paphos Police Station in an effort by the Ministry of Transport to deal with the pressing and accumulated problems in this issue in the Paphos district. The relevant information was made by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeadis, during a meeting he had with Paphos MP Chrysanthos Savvidis.
Mr. Savvidis said, in particular, that based on Vafeadis' announcements, 250 new dates have been opened for driving license exams, which will concern the months of August and September, while immediately after, he said, another 250 dates will be opened for October and November, in order to decongest the existing situation with the lack of available dates.
Regarding the wider situation at the Paphos Police Station, Mr. Vafeadis said that in September, two hourly paid employees of the department will be trained in order to be able to take on examiner duties for the acquisition of a driver's license.
The Paphos MP of DIKO told "F" that he also raised the need for the competent minister to proceed immediately with the recruitment of the four permanent technicians who have been announced for the Department of Road Transport and for whom the deadline for submitting applications has expired. He also called for ensuring that at least some of them are hired in the Paphos district.
During the Vafeadis-Savvidis meeting, two road issues of major importance for Paphos were also discussed. As Chrysanthos Savvidis said, in particular, for the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous road, the Minister of Transport assured that the procedures are progressing normally, while for the Tombs of the Kings-Coral Bay road, he concluded, the competent Minister said that the announcement of the project is expected to take place in the first half of 2026, with the works starting, according to the schedule, at the end of the same year.
