NEAR 40s AGAIN NEXT WEEK AS HEATWAVE SET TO RETURN, STRONG WINDS TODAY - RED FIRE RISK

 in-cyprus 17 August 2025 - by Constantinos Tsindas

The respite from extreme heat will be a brief one, as the Met Office forecast indicates a gradual return to the 40+ sweltering conditions next week, albeit hopefully without the repeated red warnings of the past few days. Overcast night skies set the stage for the next few days.

A low pressure system continues to affect the island.

Fine and hot throughout today, but there will be scattered cloud at intervals over many areas of the island, coupled with strong winds, raising alarm bells for fires. The forestry department reminds the public that lighting unlicensed fires in the countryside or forested areas is a criminal offence, carrying heavy penalties.

Temperatures will rise to 37 degrees Celsius inland, 33 in coastal regions and 29 over the mountains.

Early to mid next week will see a gradual rise in temperatures, well over the seasonal average, with scattered cloud and strong winds persisting.
