The National Betting Authority warns of strong misinformation and the spread of false claims about the legitimacy of some websites offering online gambling services.
In a statement, the Authority expresses concern about the "rapid increase" of advertisements of illegal online casinos on popular social media, which operate without a license in the Republic of Cyprus. It also points out the "uncontrolled use" of images and videos of well-known people in promotional material without their consent.
It is recalled that the Cypriot legislation explicitly prohibits the operation of online casinos. Participation in illegal activities poses risks to the security of personal and banking data, but also to the financial and psychological well-being of players.
The Authority invites the public to check the validity of the information it receives from websites, applications, social media posts or other advertisements, and to be informed about licensed providers only through www.nba.gov.cy website. The blocking list for unlicensed websites that provide illegal betting services is also available on the site.
