The announcement emphasizes that causing a fire, according to the legislation, constitutes an offense that incurs severe penalties. A warm appeal is made to the public to be particularly careful during their excursions, completely avoiding actions and activities that may cause a fire.

In case someone notices smoke or fire, they are asked to call 1407 (Forestry Department) or 112 (Fire Service) immediately.

Interruption of outdoor work and transport 12:00-16:00 due to heat wave

The Department of Labour Inspection of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance announced the cessation of all outdoor heavy and moderate work, as well as the transportation or delivery of products with two-wheelers, between 12:00 and 16:00, for as long as the orange warning of extremely high temperature issued by the Department of Meteorology is in force.

The measure applies to the interior of the country (altitude below 300 meters and distance of more than 10 km from the coastline) and to mountainous areas above 1,150 meters.

For the rest of the areas and for light work, the Department reminds that employers and self-employed persons must measure temperature and relative humidity and regulate working conditions, applying job rotations, breaks or work interruptions where necessary, in order to avoid thermal stress.

Guidelines include frequent breaks in shady or air-conditioned areas, use of appropriate shades or canopies, rotation of workers, avoidance of strenuous work during the hottest hours, provision of cool drinking water, use of a headgear, light cotton clothing and appropriate sunglasses, as well as avoiding alcohol, caffeine and heavy meals. Also, training of employees is recommended for the prevention of thermal effects.
