END OF THE ALARM AT THE BEACH OF AGIA VARVARA IN AGIOS TYCHONAS

 Filenews 11 August 2025

The waters at the beach of Agia Varvara in Agios Tychonas are now clean and suitable for swimming, according to the Director of the Department of the Environment, Theodoulos Mesimeris. This is demonstrated by the results of the new sampling carried out in the area by the Health Services and analyzed by the General State Chemistry.

As Mr. Mesimeris told us speaking to Filenews, it was a "point, local burden" at a specific point of the beach, which gradually weakened and has now been eliminated. On Saturday, new samples were taken from the marine area, and today the Department of the Environment has in its hands the new analyses, according to which no microbial load was found in the water. The waters, according to the new analyses, are absolutely clear, with Mr. Mesimeri characterizing the phenomenon as "point-by-point".

Mr. Mesimeris also mentioned that a bathing water quality monitoring program is in place at 130 points throughout Cyprus, with regular sampling. As he explained, when exceedances of the limits set by the legislation and the relevant European directive are detected, the prescribed protocol is applied, which includes informing the public and recommending avoiding swimming.
