AKAMAS - TOURISM IN THE VILLAGES AS WELL AS ON THE BEACH AND NATURAL MONUMENTS

Filenews 11 August 2025 - by Dora Christodoulou

The special plan for the interconnection of all development and landscaping projects carried out in the villages of Akamas, in order to facilitate unified visitation in the area, has already begun to bring visitors to the communities of the peninsula this summer.

The plan announced by President Christodoulides at the beginning of 2024 has been implemented since last summer and the first samples are encouraging, with organized groups of tourists visiting the area, however, it is estimated that the full picture of the benefits for local communities will become apparent this summer.

For the first time in the history of the peninsula, local officials point out, it is expected that this summer we will see en masse and not isolated groups, tourists coming within the communities instead of crossing them just to go to the beaches and natural monuments of Akamas.

Speaking to "F", the Deputy Mayor of Akamas of the Arodon district, Mattheos Stefanou, noted that President Christodoulides' commitment to develop and implement this plan in a beneficial way for the communities is being implemented, since the first organized visits are already a fact. The incentive plan was announced by the President of the Republic, at the inauguration of three new projects in the community of Ineia, the Aphrodite thematic route, the Turtle Museum and the regeneration of the community's core.

Nikos Christodoulides stressed that this plan will provide incentives so that all these projects that have been done in the communities of Akamas in recent months attract visitors, Mr. Stefanou pointed out.

As the President of the Republic stressed when announcing the implementation of this plan, this does not constitute preferential treatment of the communities of the peninsula, since everyone recognizes that all these years the residents of the villages of Akamas cannot utilize their properties, as the people of all other regions of Cyprus can do. The importance of Akamas goes beyond the narrow boundaries of the region and gives our efforts a national reach, Nikos Christodoulides had said.

The Deputy Mayor of Arodes in the Municipality of Akamas stressed that this is a development that creates significant development opportunities for the people of the area. Everyone should understand, he said, that the inhabitants of the villages are the ones who are most interested in Akamas and the environment, because it is this environment that proves the uniqueness of their area and the advantages it gives them.
