Under the auspices of Mr. Yiannis Tsouloftas, President of the Limassol District Local Government Organization

The halloumi made with sheep and goat’s milk, is considered the flag of authentic Cypriot cuisine and a part of the cultural heritage of Cyprus. Its history, 'travels', to the depths of the centuries, making it one of the oldest cheeses in the world. Its production is directly linked to the traditional rural life and social solidarity that characterizes the community of Prastio (Avdimou).

Halloumi is history. Halloumi is culture.

The picturesque, and spotlessly clean, village of Prastio (Avdimou), honours every aspect of the history and culture of halloumi, with a purely thematic festival, which will impress you with the interactive and experiential activities, and will take you on a gastronomic, historical and religious journey, while experienced instructors will give unique experiences to the children.

In addition to the rich traditional gastronomy, and the live music, the festival provides the opportunity to make a pilgrimage to the nearby chapel of St. John the Theologian, where Father Athenodoros will talk to you about the history and art of iconography.

The halloumi Festival is organized by the Community Council and all the organized groups of the village. and the gold sponsor is the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.

Religious Activities

Pilgrimage to the church of Agios Ioannis the Theologian, and acquaintance with Father Athenodoros, the hagiographer of the village.

Get to know the village

A tour of the historic part of the village, by a small train.  Thirty exhibitors, with traditional gastronomy, cosmetics, arts and crafts on the theme of Cypriot cheese factories and tradition, milk and wool. Traditional food and drinks and hospitality.
